How to find your art theme and Why you need it

Since I began to draw and share new sketches on a regular basis, I am often asked how I did it. How I could return to almost every day drawing so easy?

I think the best way is to find your topic.
It is easy to say, I understand.

But let's talk about it.

How to find your art theme and Why you need it

Do you see all those Instagram accounts of illustrators and sketchers with many artworks for a one topic? I thought it is so boring to draw the same over and over. At the same time, it was so hard for me to sit and draw, I didn't want it, I literally used to force myself draw.

I took part in art challenge where main topic was flowers. (I wrote a lot about my love to art challenges here)  It was after all the challenges of urban sketches/summer/magic/interior/different jobs topics. Only flowers stay in my life after the art challenge had finished. And the very first art marathon was about botanic. I skipped so many other topics, but started from the botanical one

A couple posts ago I have already written about this moment. Then I have met a random magnolia flower pic on Instagram. It was the moment when I understood I love to draw flowers.

That is the point. Only through the practice and listening to my inner voice, I found my own topic. Since this moment I have no trouble with the question "Why is every day drawing so hard?" It isn't hart for me anymore. I just need to find inspirable reference.

I see how a line of edge trembles, what my next motion is, how to catch the place where one petal goes on another. I can watch it many and many hours. It is my real pleasure and joy. It can’t be hard to feel joy. It is hard to stop it.

By the way, the best thing is here. When you find your topic, start to draw on regular basis, you can  switch on another topics without a big stress. Because you will have a habit to draw every day and a warm skill. Your topic is your shelter and your home to return whenever you need. That is why I think It is a good idea to have it.

On what thing can you stare endlessly? What is your point to draw every free minutes? Maybe you love flowers too, or windows, or birds, or trees or people faces and bodies? Try every topic and watch your reaction until you hear “a-ha!” inside your head!
