Art processes. How to create an illustration.
Hi, guys!
Let's continue our talking about art processes. Today I want to share with you how I build my work on an illustration with markers.
How to create an illustration.
Usually I follow to next order.
Those 3 steps can be mixed or replace one another:
1. Thumbnail sketching (not always, but often)
2. Building final composition (if it is complicated artwork)
3. Research of inspiring references
3. Research of inspiring references
About referenses. I find all my referenses on maxpixel.net and unsplash.com. Sometimes I find lovely photos on Instagram and ask an author's permission to draw.
4. Making outlines . It takes about 1-2 hours, the most important part, it needs high concentration.
I think, the character of lines defines all the work. I pay attention for every single turn and curve. It is not too quick, not too easy, not too detalizided. I always look for a balance. It is my main focus in the work.
How to chose your color palette and start with markers we have said here. For this hydrangea I take a color set of 7 colors. There are Promarker, Sketchnarkers, Tombow and Craph'it. I wanted to add a violet contour, but in the progress I decided to do without it.
6. Coloring. It's my favorite part of working, bc I'm going with a flow. It takes about 20-70 hours. And it's the most happy time ever.
7. Making accents. After long break and refreshing my
eyes, I return to the work for highlights, accents and fixing defects. It
is about 2 hours of full paying attention for every single motion. Bc you can save or kill hours of your work.
By the way, those beautiful paper letters made by Vera and Misha from MamerPaper.
That's all.
This is my way to build an art process. What about you, guys? How do you make
your artworks?
